" The dancers entered from the wings like spirits seeking bodies to possess. Their bodies reached upward, in petition of the orisas, or deities. I’ve never seen KoumanKe'le' in finer form. " - Adam Casteneda, theDanceDish
“ This entire workshop series has been in one word, inspiring. ” - Rachel Eckroth, Healing Points Acupuncture
" You had no choice but to groove alongside the powerful ladies of the KoumanKe'le African Dance, whose djembe drummers punished those skins while the danseurs, wearing neon-colored bead skirts and tops, carried off choreography not suitable for the weak minded." - Joel Luks, CultureMap Houston

Mission
Our mission is to present, educate and preserve African traditions and culture through quality artistic performances.
Vision
We want to reconnect current and future generations to the history and traditions of the Diaspora, along with its transitions and current applications through dance, drum and culturally educated performances and presentations..
KoumanKe’le’ African Dance & Drum Ensemble has been closely monitoring news and recommendations from the World Health Organization and the CDC regarding COVID-19.
ALthough it is our firm desire to continue dancing and drumming and sharing, the health and wellness of our community is our first priority. For this reason, we have decided to follow our local government recommendations to cancel our Friday, Yetu Youth classes and our Sunday adult community dance classes for the remainder of March or until social distancing and self-quarantine requests have been lifted.
We will continue to monitor this public health crisis and will keep everyone updated of our possible ONLINE adult classes or April class schedule and Yetu Youth make-up days.
We thank you for your continued support throughout the years and through this crisis.
Stay Healthy.
