Join KoumanKe'le' ADDE as we welcome current FELA! cast member and world reknowned dancer and singer, Ismael 'Bonfils' Kouyate on his return trip to Texas. A master of traditional Guinean dance and song, Ismael hails from a family of renowned artists and praise singers in Guinea West Africa.
He performed with Guinea's national companies, Les Percussions de Guinea and Les Ballets Africains.
Currently residing in New York City, he teaches dance and sings with his band Ismael Kouyate: Waraba Band

Master drummer Jorge Alabê grew up in Rio de Janeiro immersed in the rich musical culture of Brazil, becoming a master in samba percussion as well as in the Afro-Brazilian religious tradition of candomblé. He is an “Alabê” connected with the oldest candomblé house established in Brazil, Casa Branca; the title of “Alabê” means that he has obtained the highest level in drumming and leading of rituals in the candomblé religion and signifies deep experience and authority.
Curtis Pierre is the founder and director of Casa Samba, the first School of Samba in the Louisiana and the Southern Region. Born and raised in the carnival traditions of New Orleans for the first 20 years. He was introducedto Brasilian percussion in 1979 by Airto Moreira, world renown Brasilian drummer for Miles Davis. He later studies percussion with Bill Summers, percussionist for Herbie Hancock; Munyungo Jackson, percussionist for Stevie Wonder; and Ron Powell, percussionist for Sergio Mendez & Kenney G. just to name a few.
Marcio Peeter a percussionist from Ilê Aiyê, the group known worldwide as the creator of the unique rhythmic style Samba Afro. He has played with the band Ilê Aiyê for over 10 years, starting to play professionally when he was 14. He has also played with Bahia’s famous Timbalada as well as other Afro Blocos.

Dandha da Hora"A energia da Bahia vai chegar em Houston!" In other words, The energy of Bahia, Brazil is coming to Houston when Dandha da Hora arrives to teach another exciting Afro-Brazilian & Samba Dance Workshop on FRIDAY, April 20, 2012.
Born and raised in Salvador Bahia, Dandha has been a member of Ile Aiye, one of Brazil's most important musical and cultural institutions since she was six years old. As a master choreographer, singer and percussionist, Dandha honors the incredible gifts of her culture every time she performs on stage as well as off stage when teaching a workshop. Accompanied by live drumming, her knowledge of rhythm, movement and cultural expression through dance is simply inspiring.
