Programs

Your students will wiggle in their seats to the beat of the drum, sing along with wild abandon and learn about the majestic continent of Africa and much more with KoumanKe'le's interactive school programs.  KoumanKe'le' commands the attention of everyone from kindergarteners to 8th graders.

  • Recommended group size: 250 for Pre-K to 1st grade, up to 400 for grades 2-8*
  • Locations: Public libraries, cafetoriums, gymnasiums and theaters
  • Tech Needs: Standard PA system, two armless chairs

*Important: There are different programs for different grades.  Mixing lower grades with higher grades is not recommended.


Program Topics

 

  • Na Furaha Na Michezo (K-12) - Take your students on a culture sharing adventure to Africa through an exhilarating, interactive performance presenting the drum and dance traditions of the continent.
  • Kazi Za Yetu (K-5) - which means "our chores", is an upbeat presentation of South African songs, drumming and dancing.  KoumanKe'le' depicts a typical Saturday for a South African child whose day includes baby-sitting, cooking, cleaning, and most importantly, playing.
  • Wontonara (K-8) - Experience our anti-bullying and cultural awareness presentation that stresses acceptance, unity and collective work.
  • Matunda ya Kwanzaa (K-8) - A children's craft workshop that focuses on the basic history of Kwanzaa, understanding its seven principles and practices.
  • And The Beat Goes On (K-8) - A paticipatory performance demonstrating the diversity of percussion instruments from around the world, their origins and musical fun, fun, fun!
